It's the first day of school and I have a bit of an update for all of you. This website is no longer being made for Dr.Neato. We are now being taught by Mrs.Gill. It is still engineering and we still have Wednesday Challenges and what not, we are just in a different room with a different teacher.
Today we were assigned a powerpoint presentation on engineering disiplines.I am in a group with Alvin and Hunter.
Today we went up to the computer lab to get started on our PowerPoints. To be honest, We made absolutely NO PROGRESS WHATSOEVER. haha... thats okay though.
Today we went back to the lab. I worked on adding backdrops and writing about Civil and Environmental Engineering. We should be ready to present on Wednesday.
Last day to work on our powerpoint. It took a lot of hard work, but Hunter, Alvin, and I finished up with about 3 minutes to spare.
Today we presented out powerpoint to the class. We were told by Mrs.Gill to talk about Areospace engineering.
Today, the rest of the groups presented their powerpoints to the class.
Today while working on websites, we had a presentation from a counslor from GCC who came into talk about options to take a free college class. This allowed me(I already signed up for one) to get my email and accounts set up and ready to go.
ABSENT
Yesterday we were given our first "Wednesday Challenge" although it was a Monday. Our objective is to fold aluminum foil into a "boat" that can hold as many pennies as possible without sinking. I was absent yesterday, so when I returned today, I was already in a group with Alvin. We finished our first trial and held 30 pennies. We will have another trial with a new boat tomorrow.
Today is a minimum day. We had a substitute and watched Bill Nye Videos... I think...
NO SCHOOL
Today is the day I finally started my website! Sorry if I dont remember everything we did up until this point. Im trying though! :)
Today we had the "Marshmallow Wednesday Challenge", basically we are given 20 pasta noodles, 1 yard of tape, a piece of string, and a marshmallow(the marshmallow has to be on top). We are then given 18 minutes to build the tallest structure. You can see the form and reflections here
So starting off today, I had no clue my information to upload my website through filezilla. Luckily, Hunter came to my rescue and i actually got some updating done. my laptop also came today so I got it all set up and ready to update every day for this class. Yay.
Today we had a presentation about engineering and women in engineering from people at CalPoly. After their presentation, we were given the task to use duct tape, a pvc pipe, and bubble wrap to make a "functional" prostethic leg. I think ours went really well.
Today I got to visit my boyfriend at his college(California Baptist University). It was so great to see him. He took me out to breakfast(since I drove out there at 5am and arrived by 6:15am.) He gave me a tour of his campus, then took me to lunch. We also went to skyzone. It was my first time on a trampoline so that was fun.It was a good day.
Today we went out onto Community Avenue to watch the 9/11 Parade. After that was over(around 9:30), our class went back up to the computer lab to work on our websites. Todays assignment was to choose a device, write about how we think it works, how it actually works, if I was close, and why its important for engineers to think this way.
I chose a toaster(cause I love bagels). I believe that a toaster works by electricity heating up the inner coils that press up against the bread slowly warming all sides of the bread evenly based on a timer that stops it from toasting when it thinks it's done. It actually works kind of how I described it.Electrical energy(from a power plant then an outlet in your home) flows into the toaster, through a series of thin filaments, spread apart evenly to toast the whole surface. Engineers think this way so they can figure out; through educated guesses, how things work and how to improve upon them.
Today in class we went up to the lab to work on our websites.
Today we re-did the Wednesday Challenge from last week. Today, our group actually reached a score higher than 0. Yay for us. We got a height of 28.something centimeters.
Today we had a substitute so I used the class period to update my website and finish filling out a job application I've been working on.
Today is Sunday so that means I went to Volunteer at the Montrose Farmers Market for the kids section. My boyfriend Kevin came back home from college for the weekend so we decided to get matching henna tattoos.
Today in class we started presenting our devices to the class. On another note I started my college class today. It's Intro to Computer Networking.
Today in class we continued listening to the device presetations.
Today in class we continiued listening to the device presentations. I personally hoped we would have a Wednesday Challenge, but guess not.
I've been listening to this song a lot lately as well.
The anime in the video is really heart-wrenching. I'd highly reccomend watching it if you're into anime.
Today we started our "Wednesday" challenge. We are to make a paper bridge out of an 8 by 11 piece of paper and 3 paperclips.
We tested our bridge today. This is how our bridge ended up looking. We used 0 paperclips and held 160 pennies. That gave my group a score of 235 because for each unused paperclip,
you recieve +25 pennies to your score.
September 22, 2017
We also tied with Alvin. Which was a joyous moment for him and I.
Today in class we finished testing our bridges, Antons group won with a total score of 283. So we lost. Thats okay though. We then went up to the lab to update our websites. All I had to do was make a Wednesday Challenge Form. In other news, I start my job today at Los Gringos Locos in La Canada. I'm a hostess. So theres that.
Today we were assigned a project to design a sculpture for the school. We were given outlines for our design by some of the art students. I am paires with Alvin and Benjamin to complete this task.
After some discussion in class we headed up to the lab to type out the answers to some questions. Things like cost, who in our group had what type of experience in engineering, and so on.
Today in class our group began working on a paper prototype. We also began reserching cost.
Today in class we completed a slightly better and functional paper prototype. the falcon actually can flap its wings. I think it's pretty neat.
Today in class we focused our time on reserching prices for our sculpture. We didn't quite finish, but we made some good progress.
This evening I volunteered along with my boyfriend Kevin for the Friends of Rockhaven. They had an oction and the CV Jazz Band preformed. It was actually a lot of fun.
GET SPOOKED! IT'S FINALLY OCTOBER!
Today we had a sub. We wewre in the computer lab and continued to work on our prototypes.
We were in the computer lab with another sub. We continued to work on our prototypes.
Today Mr. Miller came in to assist with prototyping.
Today we continued with prototyping.
Today is the only normal scheduled day this week. We continued to work on our word documents for our devices. I got started on our powerpoint.
Banking day. Same stuff as yesterday, just less time to work.
No school for seniors. Yay
Today I kept working on our powerpoint. It mostly just editing transitions.
ITS FRIDAY THE 13TH!!!!!! *SPOOKY MUSIC*
Today we researched materials for our device.
MORE RESEARCH! :) I also started a really good book in a series. Its based of an anime. Its called No Game No Life. It was the first anime I ever watched so I decided to read the books.
Today, my boyfriend Kevin, came in to dop a presentation on Sketch-up(I'm actually sitting next to him as I'm typing this.) He is doing really well and I think everyone in the class is catching on quickly. He went into the differences between groups and components as well as how to color objects and label them. He taught the class how to make a cube and move it around. I did miss some of his presentation because I wasnt feeling well. Hopefully he can do more presentations in the future.
Today we had a disaster drill so classes were shorter. We still got some time to work on our kinetic sculptures though.
Happy Friday. Today my boyfriend Kevin is coming over for dinner. Im so excited! Anyways. In class we got to work on our prototypes.
We got a "Wednesday" Challenge today. Its the Spaghetti Bridge Challenge!
Today in class we worked on our kinetic sculptures. Alvin started sawing some wood but we didnt get much done.
I was sick during first period today. Wah. Anyways, today we started constructing our spaghetti bridges.
I leave for my beach house today. :)
Happy monday. We are once again in the computer lab working on our projects.
Happy Halloween everyone!!!! *7 hours later* Nevermind, I got food poisoning. From Chipotle. I ended up leaving work early and throwing up as soon as I parked my car.... so that was fun. Not really.... but oh well.
More project work.
Today we worked on our spaghetti bridges.
Today in class we were up in the library working on our powerpoints for Monday's presentations.Kevin was back to present on sketch-up, but this time to 3rd period.
Today our presentations started.
More presentations. Alvin, Ben, and I wont be presenting until next week.
Spaghetti bridge time!!!!
SPAGHETTIIIIII BRIDGGEEEEEE TIMEEEEEEEE!
Today our presentations finished. Our group went, I think we did really well.
Today we tested our final bridge. Our bridge had a total efficency score of..... 0! Nailed it.
Today we are in the computer lab adding pictures of the wednesday challenge and the Wednesday Challenge form. So check out these pictures.

Today we were in the library and were told to sketch up either a phone, a pecil or a soda can. I did the phone.
I also made a cow and snail.
Today someone came in to present on Berkeley. It was very informative.
Today we are in the library. we were given 6 sketch up assignments to complete at some point soon. My first one was a house.
Hello. Kevin is here again today to help with sketch up. He helped me with my soccer ball. YAY. I love that boy. <3
I also finished my house with a pool and diving board. I decided to put the pool on the roof.... because why not.
Today we started our Wednesday Challenge! It's the paper plane challenge. We are to fold a plane that can fly for either the farthest distance or have the longest air time. We dont get to start folding today, onl,y researching the elements that a plane requires to fly well. Im in a group with Alvin and Raffik
We started our testing with a crumpled up piece of paper. Although not a plane, it got a pretty good distance. It was the winning design last year lol.
Testing day!!!! *insert epic music* ....so we didnt win. But we got a top distance of 55 feet with a flight time of 2.41 seconds.Check out the research form.
I finished the exersizes I wanted to and now I have just been updating my website.
More website updating.
Today we are to sketch up our paper airplanes.

Today we continued working on our sketchups of pour planes.
More sketchup.
Today we are in the computer lab. We had to choose a device and descibe how it works. I chose a Cotton Candy Machine. You pour the hard candy/sugar into a metal disc with a small indentation to hold it. There is filaments below that disc that heat up the disc, which melts the sugar. The sugar is then pushed out through tiny holes.
We are to start sketching up a object of our choice. I chose my little 3D Printed Pacman that Kevin made me.
Finished my sketchup!
Today we were given the challenge for the final. We are to build and fly a glider. WOOHOO. We started our research today and will be building and testing on the day of the final.
Today we are in the library finishing the sketchups of our objects and updating our websites. Kevin is here to assist with sketch up as well. <3
Today is the day of the final! Wish me luck!
